and a perfect snack
This note is a little late this week because of some good news things which took precedence and required immediate action/attention (!!!). I am going to be maddeningly vague about this for the moment, because that is how we do it. (But newsletter friend, I promise you’ll know before the rest of the internet.) I have found myself extremely unable to focus, staring at the screen and trying to summon something to say in the meantime because good news preoccupies me—it tends to bring along with it more uncertainty. Writing! Each great thing unspools a vista of possibility, and possibility can metabolize into angst so quickly.
It takes mental discipline to dodge this, and so far I am winning. Meditation seems like nothing important when you’re doing it—literally, just sitting there, why stop the world so you can set a timer and sit there? But times like this, when my brain is tempted to spin a bunch of narratives, make me grateful for the ways I’ve trained myself to be aware of myself thinking.
